Calculation Methodology & Google Business Profile Standards
The 1,500 Character Boundary: Google allows up to 1,500 characters in an update post. However, on Google Search knowledge panels and Google Maps mobile app listings, only the first 80 to 100 characters are rendered before the text is truncated by a “… More” expandable fold. Critical conversion triggers, offers, and value propositions must always sit within the first 100 characters.
Asset Sizing Rules: Google’s rendering engine automatically crops post photos to either a 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio. The minimum permissible size is 480 × 270 px, but 1200 × 900 px is required to prevent pixelation on retina mobile displays. Files over 10MB or images containing more than 20% overlay text frequently fail Google’s automated post reviews.
Spam Filter Avoidance: Including direct phone numbers in the post body is a primary trigger for instant post rejections under Google’s Misrepresentation & Spam guidelines. Always utilize the built-in “Call now” CTA button instead of writing phone numbers in the copy.
